Full-Time Student Status

Beginning with the 2004 FederalTax baseline, a person is identified as a full-time student if he or she meets at least one of the following conditions:

  1. did not work at all during the prior year due to attending school
  2. worked fewer than 30 weeks in the prior year and reported that the reason for not working the full year was to attend school
  3. reports attending school full-time at the time of the CPS interview (InSchoolFullOrPartTime= "full-time")
  4. Prior to the 2004 FederalTax baseline, a person was identified as a full-time student if he or she did not work for some or all of the year in order to attend school. This definition missed those students with part-time jobs, so the current definition was implemented beginning with the 2004 baseline.
