The TRIM3 system undergoes constant development and is updated annually to capture the latest changes
in tax and transfer programs. Each year, a new input datafile is prepared from that year's March
Current Population Survey (CPS), the model's code is updated as needed, the database of program rules
is updated, and a baseline simulation is run and validated for each
program. The model's development and annual updates are funded primarily by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Other development work has been funded by the Administration for Children and Families and the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement of HHS, the U.S. Department of Labor's Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration, the Congressional Budget Office, and private foundations.
